Crowd Appealing Karaoke Songs
1. John Denver – Thank God I’m A Country Boy
Unless people live under a rock they’ll know this song as soon as they hear the intro and it’s likely they’ll start clapping along to the beat. You’re sure to have plenty of backup singers as well when you hit the “thank god I’m a country boy!”
2. The Troggs – Wild Thing
It’s actually a cover version by The Troggs that brought this song to fame, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. Wild Thing could also qualify for the list of easy songs to sing for karaoke.
3. Jimmy Buffett – Cheeseburger In Paradise
Double bonus if you find yourself on a sandy beach right now, strolling the shoreline and happen to stumble upon a karaoke party. You have just found heaven on earth with an onion slice.
4. Barry Manilow – Copacabana
As upbeat and fun as this song sounds, At The Copa is actually kind of sad, don’t you think? I mean, Lola loses her love by gunshot wound and ends up a sorrowful lush 30 years later working the same nightclub.
5. Alabama – Forty Hour Week (For A Livin’)
It’s very possible I could include several songs by Alabama in this particular post about crowd appealing songs. But this ditty is fairly easy to sing and lends itself well to a large group if you have a few pals that want to join you in front of the TV.
6. Garth Brooks – Friends In Low Places
One of the most popular karaoke songs around, it’s not uncommon to see three or four people grabbing a mic to sing this classic. And for good reason, it’s always nice to have friends there to grab you a beer and help you chase those blues away!
(You won’t find any Garth songs on Spotify, this is a tribute band’s version)
7. The B-52s – Love Shack
Someday this song will, in all likelihood, make my list of best all time karaoke songs. And quite often the people singing this song, well that’s usually a group of – ahem – well served individuals plugging this title into the song queue. But that’s OK because we’re all about appealing to the crowd on karaoke night!
8. Bobby Darin – Mack The Knife
This song selection is a little trickier to sing and might be best left to the more advanced karaoke stars. But if you’re comfortable with the challenge then you’re certain to have a pleased crowd on your hands if you knock this one out of the park.
9. Merle Haggard – Okie From Muskogee
Don’t worry, there is not a law stating you must be from Muskogee to sing this one. Or even be from Oklahoma for that matter. If you’re fond of classic country music, or think the crowd may be, then this selection is for you.
10. Sam The Sham – Wooly Bully
Another qualifier for the easy to sing karaoke song list, you need only to sing a few sentences and say wooly bully over and over again. If you can do that, then you can be confident in appealing to the masses with this one. Oh, and know how to speak a little Spanish… uno, dos, tres, quatro!
11. Village People – Y.M.C.A.
By any chance are you wearing your construction or cowboy hat? No? Bummer. Well, then just do the universally known hand motions and that should be good enough to liven things up.
12. Jimmy Buffett – Why Don’t We Get Drunk
Hey, I’m listing out crowd-pleasing karaoke songs here! Not politically correct karaoke songs. It’s probably wise to save this one for the local drinking establishment and not the Sunday afternoon church fundraiser.
13. KC & The Sunshine Band – Get Down Tonight
Upbeat? Check! Fast tempo? Check! Easy lyrics? Check! You now have a perfect storm for riling up the crowd and getting down tonight! What are you waiting for? Get to it!
14. Queen – Another One Bites The Dust
There’s a reason this was a hit worldwide! It’s catchy, it’s funky, it’s cool. So are you ready? Are you ready for this? Get them hanging off the edge of their seat!
15. Kool & The Gang – Celebration
I won’t say I told you so but once you’re done singing this hit, handing out high fives and having your back slapped, don’t say I didn’t warn you that the crowd would be happy.
16. Olivia Newton John – Physical
The song was immensely popular back in the day. It won awards. Several in fact. If you’re up to it, don’t be afraid to pull out some of your own suggestive moves while singing this chart topper.
17. Taco – Puttin’ On The Ritz
There are a lot of covers to the original song that dates back to the 1920’s. It’s just Taco’s version that is the most fun to sing on karaoke night. You don’t need the best voice either if you’re going to follow Taco’s lead.
18. Dwight Yoakam – Guitars, Cadillacs
Did you know Dwight Yoakam is an actor too? Yeah, he is. If you’ve seen Sling Blade, Hollywood Homicide, Under the Dome or, most recently, Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton on Amazon, then you’ve seen D.Y. His songs are pretty catchy too; Guitars and Cadillacs is one of his best.
19. Tracy Byrd – I’m From The Country
This is one of my personal favorites so maybe you could say I’m a bit biased to include it here. What I do is, depending on where I’m at, I’ll change “I’m from the country” to “I’m from the metro” or “I’m from the city” or something completely opposite to where the venue is located. It seems to work for making things fun and engaging the crowd.
20. Shelly West – Jose Cuervo
Ah yes, quite the friend of mine he is, that Jose Cuervo guy. Wikipedia says this song is about a woman who drank too much tequila the night before. Really? You don’t say?! It’s a crowd pleaser, what else can I say?
